Diana García is a proud lifelong resident of Cicero, deeply rooted in the community she calls home. An alumna of District 99 and District 201, she began her higher education at Morton College before transferring to Northern Illinois University, where she earned both a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition, Dietetics, and Wellness as well her Master’s in Public Health, with an emphasis in Health Promotion. Her journey into public service was sparked by a personal health experience—being diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes as a teen. This challenge ignited her passion for health and wellness, which only deepened during a study abroad program that further exposed her to global health disparities, including nutrition and food security and access to clean water and sanitation. This experience fueled her desire to address systemic inequities and ensure that every individual has access to the resources they need to thrive.
With nearly a decade of experience in higher education and the nonprofit sector, Diana has consistently applied an equity lens to her work, ensuring that systems and processes are just, fair, and inclusive. Her efforts have been recognized by her Alma Mater’s Presidential Commission on the Status of Women, where she was honored with the Outstanding Women & Gender Advocacy Award. Guided by honesty, integrity, and the values instilled in her by her family, Diana is committed to treating every person with dignity and respect. Her strong belief in the power of community is evident in her long-standing dedication to service. Since 2021, she has served as a Board Director of the Morton College Foundation and Corazón Community Services, since 2023.
Diana understands that civic engagement at all levels of government is crucial to the wellbeing and progress of families and communities. She has advocated for proper funding allocations from Cicero leadership to ensure Cicero residents receive the assistance they rightfully deserve. Her commitment to meaningful change extends beyond the local level—she has lobbied on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. by meeting with members of the House of Representatives on more than one occasion.
Diana believes in Cicero’s potential to flourish a community that uplifts and advocates for all of its residents. Diana is ready to bring her wealth of experience and integrity to work tirelessly in creating a stronger community for all.
